First off, its 14,000 this year so if you really want one you should be able to get on before it sells out. They don't sell out in a day.

Second, Dick never had to deal with Rhino. Remember who is in control. Dave just picks them, i don't think he runs the marketing. I would argue that Dave has done an outstanding job of picking for this series. He hasn't picked one yet that i would not have purchased. That is way better than what they did for Road Trips where i only purchased about half the releases.

Third, the announcement for DaP Vol. 2 and 6 were both around 4-10 or 4-11 for 5-1 shipping date. They have been pretty consistent with how they have done this. I think its pretty smart. Anticipation stimulates interest and excitement both here and on the dead.net boards.

I think Rhino/GDP and Dave had done a really good job over the last few years after a rocky start. 4 Dave Pick's or Road Trips releases, 1 box set and usually 1 other special release that has often has a DVD/BluRay each year. Last year we even got that acoustic set release. I do agree that i am not a huge fan of combining the subscription program with limited releases. I do kind of feel that I am being strong-armed. As i mentioned before, if they release 3 that you would purchase then the gamble pays off based on free shipping and the bonus disc. Hopefully Dave will continue to do a good job.

Be happy with what we are getting, its way more than most bands release 20 years after they existed. Well except Hendrix.

Its okay. Some interesting spots but i would not call it a must own release. I suspect we could arrange for you to hear it if you are really interested.
